Giorgio Armani is an Italian clothing designer that has set the standard in men’s fashion with designs emulating well-tailored sophistication. His fashion empire primarily rose in the U.S. when his power suits appeared frequently in popular American television shows such as Miami Vice and American Gigolo.
Armani dropped out of school, completed his military service, and began his career in fashion during his early 30s when he went to work for Nino Cerruti as a designer. After he branched off to become a freelance designer, he joined forces with a close friend, Sergio Galeotti, and began Giorgio Armani S.p.A. Their first collection was a men’s clothing line that encouraged a more natural fit and used more a neutral color palette than the industry was used to. Armani’s designs were revolutionary to the fashion world.
In recent years, Giorgio Armani has expanded his empire outside of fashion and into the hotel business. His name and his brand is currently being used with exclusive hotels around the world, including those in Dubai and Italy.
Armani focuses most of his time on his career and has been a lifelong bachelor. He has stated that if he had the chance to go back in time, he would not have chosen to be a fashion designer.
