Sheldon Adelson

Sheldon Adelson, as of July 2014, was listed by Forbes as having a fortune of $36.4 billion, and as the 8th richest person in the world. He began earning his wealth through the computer industry where he helped to start COMDEX, a trade show for technology that premiered in 1979.

He amassed a significant amount of wealth in 1995 when he sold COMDEX’s parent company, Interface Group Show Division. Most of his current fame comes from investments he’s made in the casino and hotel industries. He is the chairman and chief executive officer of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. The conglomerate is the parent company of Venetian Macao Limited, which in turn owns the world-renowned Sands Expo and Convention Center, as well as the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. In Israel, Adelson is the founder and current owner of a daily paper called the Israel HaYom. He and his wife are known as generous philanthropists, having started the Adelson Foundation.
