Nike is the swoosh heard around the world, and Phillip “Phil” Knight is one of Nike Inc.’s CEO and co-founders. In 2014, Forbes named Knight the 43rd richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of $22.3 billion.
He attended the University of Oregon after which he served a year of active duty in the army. He then attended Stanford Graduate School of Business, it was there that Knight developed a love affair with something besides sports – he discovered he was an entrepreneur. Nike’s cofounder was Bill Bowerman, Knight’s track coach, at the University of Oregon. Currently, Knight remains the company’s chairman after resigning from the position of CEO in 2004, shortly after his son’s untimely death in a SCUBA accident.
