As chairman, managing director and primary shareholder of Reliance Industries Limited, a Fortune Global 500 company and India’s second-most valuable company, Mukesh Ambani has expanded the business from polyesters and textiles to chemical refining, petrochemicals and oil and gas. He holds a 44.7% stake in the company. As of 2013, he is India’s richest man and second richest man in Asia. Ambani is listed as the 19th richest person in the world with a personal wealth of $23.6 billion.
Together with his brother, Anil, and their families, Ambani built and currently resides in a 27-story home in the city of Mumbai. Named Antilia and valued at $1 billion, it is said to be the most expensive home in history.
Ambani is fluent in English, having studied for an MBA at Stanford University before dropping out to help his father found Reliance, which at the time was still a small but fast growing enterprise. He has also served on the board of directors of the Bank of America Corporation and the international advisory board of the Council on Foreign Relations. He was chairman of the board for the prestigious Indian business school, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, one of the leading business schools in India.
