As Canada’s richest man, David Thomson is the heir of a media and publishing fortune that was originally founded by his grandfather, Roy Thomson. He took control of Thomson Corporation after the death of his father in 2006 and sought after the acquisition of Reuters. He currently serves as chairman of the merged entity, Thomson-Reuters, and controls a vast media empire.
Thomson is part owner of the professional hockey team, the Winnipeg Jets, and also holds a minority stake in Montreal’s NHL hockey team. Thomson has had a highly publicized personal life throughout the years, with a bitter divorce to his second wife that received extensive media coverage, and an engagement to American actress Kelly Rowan.
