New York native Carl Icahn has made a name for himself by being a lucrative, business-savvy individual. He began his career in the 1960s, and he built a reputation as a notorious “raider” by heading corporate takeovers on Wall Street. With an estimated net worth of $22.4 billion, Icahn is listed 31st on Forbes list of billionaires in 2015.
One of Icahn’s most noteworthy acquisitions was the purchase of Transworld Airlines in 1985, in which he served as chief executive officer and brought it back from nearly going bankrupt. He eventually sold off most of the company’s assets and gained a substantial profit. Icahn serves as the majority shareholder of his company, Icahn Enterprises, in which he has majority control over large corporations such as Revlon, Marvel Comics, and Time Warner.
At the age of 79, this man who made himself the icon of hostile takeovers is still active as ever in the financial markets.
